Philosophy of Education

Throughout my years of being a student I have felt very successful.  I have been successful because my teachers have always encouraged me to work my hardest and set goals for myself.  My education was always viewed very highly. I was taught that hard work would result in earning good grades and good grades would eventually lead to success.  Being successful has always been my goal.

My personal philosophy of education suggests that when a student is motivated and encouraged to solve problems the child will then become more successful.  A classroom is an environment where a student can develop into a successful individual.  Also, the classroom serves the purpose of being a place where students can explore and experience new situations and work with others to solve problems.

Schools are preparations for the future.  Students attend classes and learn theories, ideas, and thoughts from others.  From these ideas students should be encouraged to develop, construct, and support their own feelings. A teacher’s job is to be a motivator to encourage students performing at their best.

The theory of education that I most agree with is that of Progressivism.  This theory allows a child to develop his own ideas and present them to others to develop a fuller understanding.  A teacher’s role in the classroom is to be a supplemental source for a student.  A teacher provides facts, but a student uses those facts and stores them in mind but then develops his own ideas.  With these ideas students together can use information and do something with it to become successful.

In my career of being a teacher I went to provide students the opportunity to grow as individuals. Through motivation it is important to encourage students to discover and test their ideas off of the ideas of other students in class to reach a fuller understanding.
