Homework Assignment 1. Due Tuesday, January 25, in class.

Chapter 6, pages 95-96: problems 1,2,3
Chapter 7, pages 104-105: problems 2,4,8
For problem 8, use the datafile geyser.txt (right-click to save). The first column contains the (previous) eruption duration, the second column contains the inter-eruption times. Ignore the third column for now. A letter M means missing data. For this problem, use the data from column 2, assume independence and normality (both assumptions are arguably false, we will consider better models later in the course).
