Education
I attended the East Pennsboro Area School District in Enola,
Pennsylvania throughout all my years of Elementary, Middle, and High
School. During High School I was very
active and successful. Enrolled in the Advanced
Academic Program, I graduated in the top 10% of my class. My High School activities included Marching
and Concert Bands, French Club (Secretary – Sophomore Yr, Vice President –
Junior Yr, President - Senior Yr), Interclub Council (Treasurer – Senior Year),
National Honor Society, and Girls’ Soccer.
I also acted as the statistician for the Boys’ Soccer and Basketball
teams during my junior and senior years.
My most memorable high school remembrances occurred while being a member
of the marching band. My senior year
was the first time in several years that the marching band was eligible to
compete in the Atlantic Coast Championships.
Outside of school, I played for another year-round soccer team, the
Panther Soccer Club, participated in Girl Scouts, and was active in my
church. I received the highest award in
Girl Scouting, the Gold award during the winter of 1999. Currently I attend Elizabethtown College in
Pennsylvania, majoring in Elementary Education. As a freshman, I am a member of the Education Club, and Alpha Lambda
Delta, the national freshman honor society.
Apart from several random babysitting jobs, I also work for the
East Pennsboro Township as a Day Camp Counselor during the summer. It’s the awesomest job! I get paid to play with little kids and go
on cool field trips! This year (2001)
will be my third year as a counselor. While at school, I work as a cashier at
the Back Door Bakery. My duties
include: running the cash register, making sandwiches and salads, stocking the
shelves, cleaning, and basically anything the managers ask of me.
For the past two summers, I have worked for the Township Day Camp. The program is designed for children, ages 6-11. The kids, as well as myself and the other counselors, go on field trips to various Amusement Parks, the pool, a sports complex, etc. My job is basically to act as a chaperone, and a “big buddy” to the kids. I admit, I have my favorites, and continue to communicate with them outside of Day Camp and after they have “graduated” from the 11 year old program.
Most recently, I have been volunteering
at the Elizabethtown Nursery School as a placement for my education
classes. Working with Mrs. Blecher’s 3
and 4 year olds is a wonderful experience.
Every Tuesday morning, I look forward to seeing the children, and
hearing their stories (You cannot help but smile and laugh at some of the
things they have to share). It’s a
great way to start my day! My role is as a “helper” in the classroom. During playtime, snack time, and recess I am
able to interact with the children. I
truly enjoy watching the children grow and learn about such things as
Dinosaurs, Hats, Spring, and the Dentist, as well as washing their hands after
they blow their nose, or how to put on their own coat.
I absolutely love
spending time and communicating with children of any age. There is never a dull moment when dealing
with a “where does he get all of that energy?” child. I could be having the worst day ever, then spend time with a
child, and completely forget about the huge test I have coming up, the fact
that my grandmother’s heath is decreasing rapidly, or the horrible fight I just
had with my best friend. Seeing a
child’s face light up when I walk into a room, or just a simple “hi” is all it
takes.
Interests
One of my major interests is music. Although I was not a member of any choirs in high school (because it didn’t fit into my schedule), I love to sing and listen to music. Another interest of mine is sports, especially soccer. I miss playing, but still enjoying watching professional or any other types of soccer games. I enjoy spending time with children, and also get along with pretty much anyone. I love watching TV (General Hospital, and Dawson’s Creek), chatting online, playing with my puppies (Ellie and Nutmeg), and collecting frog paraphernalia and anything orange!
