Work faster, don't use the mouse so much, prevent erroneous formatting.

Comments:
There are lots of keyboard shortcuts. Presented here, are a useful few. To see the whole list, follow the directions for Word 2000 or Word XP at the end of the article.

How to Type the Shortcut:
While holding down the Control key, tap the key following the + (plus sign)

Keyboard shortcut What it does
Move the Cursor  
CTRL + Page Down key To the beginning of the next page
(Page Down or Up by themsleves only move the cursor the height of the window)
CTRL + Page Up key To the beginning of the previous page
CTRL + Right Arrow To the beginning of the next word
CTRL + Left Arrow To the beginning of the previous word
CTRL + Home To the beginning of the document
CTRL + End To the end of the document
Home To the beginning of the line
Ok, this shortcut, and the one following, doesn't need the CTRL key!
End To the end of the line
Manual Page Break  back to top
CTRL + ENTER End one page and start another one before the first page is filled
Delete Text  
CTRL + Delete key Delete characters from cursor to end of the word
CTRL + Backspace key Delete characters from cursor to beginning of the word
Copy & Paste  back to top 
CTRL + C Copies selection to the clipboard
CTRL + V Pastes the copied selection
to another location in the same document, a different document, or another Microsoft program (i.e.: PowerPoint)
Cut & Paste   back to top
CTRL + X Moves the selection from the document to the clipboard
CTRL + V Pastes the cut selection into the document
Format Text  back to top 
CTRL + i

Italicizes selected text (or un-italicizes)
Ever think you are typing a capital I and instead get italics? Now you know why.

CTRL + b Bolds selected text (or un-bolds)
CTRL + u

Underlines selected text (or removes underlining)

CTRL + [ One point size smaller
[ key is on the right side of p. Don't hold down the Shift key or you'll get the wrong brace.
CTRL + ] One point size larger
Select Text   back to top
CTRL + a Selects everything (all), so you can, fopr example, change the font for the entire document.
Align Paragraphs Don't hold down the shift key
CTRL + E Centers the paragraph
CTRL + R Right aligns the paragraph
CTRL + J Justifies (even on the left and right) the paragraph
CTRL + L Left aligns the paragraph
Indent Paragraphs   back to top
CTRL + M Left indents the entire paragraph 1/2"
For 1" indent, press the shortcut 2 times
CTRL + SHIFT + M Reduces the left indent 1/2"
Once the paragraph hits the left margin, the shortcut has no effect
