Senior Project in Parallel Processing
For my Senior project as a Computer Engineering Student
here at Elizabethtown College, I am in the process of creating a 4 node
NASA Beowulf style Parallel Processor. A Beowulf style parallel processor
consists of a number of separate CPUs using direct connections between
ethernet cards as the communication pathways. This was first done
by NASA. Information about their project can be found online at http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux-web/beowulf/beowulf.html
.
In my variation of the Beowulf, I am not making
the parallel processor a stand alone machine. I am also setting it
up so each individual CPU in the the parallel processor can be used as
a stand alone workstation. This has the advantage of utilizing the machines
when the parallel processor is not being used.
This web page is an electronic record of my project.
It contains information the hardware, software, and what it took to set
it up. This page is set up like my lab note book so it is easier to find
information about specific aspects of my project. I will give an overview
of the steps and links to mode detailed information on each of the steps.
The jump station at the left lists all the links in this set of pages.
Use them to find any specific information you need.
