My Experience with
Children
I have had
experience with children of all ages. From babysitting to teaching, I've done
it all.
I have had
experience with the younger children through babysitting my niece and the
neighborhood children to teaching the brownies and other younger troops of the
Girl Scouts of America about music. I also volunteer with a bible school that
covers the elementary ages of children.
I am
currently working with three-year-olds at the Elizabethtown Community Nursery
School. My cooperating teacher is
Mrs. Kathy Horning.
I haven't had
as much experience with middle school children, but I have had some. Our area
marching band and drum line programs allow eighth graders to join, so I have
experience working with them through that. I also went down to play with my
former middle school band when they needed an oboe player.
I am
currently serving as the mallet instructor for the high school marching band
and indoor drum line programs. Therefore, I work with high school students on a
regular basis.
Quotes from those I've helped:
"She was the best person we had come in last year. We'd like
her to come back again."-Michelle Walters, troop leader, to my mother. Summer 2001
"We are very pleased with the music and you did a great job
with the students."
"We really appreciate all the help/work you've done so
far."-both
from Arthur F. Belfiore, in letters thanking me for my help with the outdoor
program. Summer/Fall 2001
"If she keeps with this, she's going to be good."-Dr. Andrew Peck, percussion
superior, to my mother during band camp for the outdoor program. Summer 2001
“You’ve done a really great job this year.”-Dr. Andrew Peck, referring to my
mallet arrangements and instruction for band camp 2002.
Perhaps the biggest compliments I’ve received were the following:
"Are you going to be around for band camp? I think it would
be a good idea if you were."-Dr. Andrew Peck, with Arthur F. Belfiore's approval, asking me to
return as mallet instructor for the Fall 2002 outdoor program.
“You’re okay. You’re
going to be asked next year.”~Dr. Andrew Peck, talking about being asked to
come back as a staff member for the 2003 marching band season.
