Professor Winpenny, a native of Philadelphia, earned a B.A. and MA from Penn State, and a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware where he was a Hagley Fellow.  He serves as associate editor of Essays in Economic and Business History and sits on the editorial board of Pennsylvania History.  He is married to Marilyn Sims Winpenny, a teacher of the gifted, and has a son Reese (Washington and Lee, 1994) and a daughter Audrey (Bryn Mawr, 1996).
