Bryan Kuppe:
Designing a More Beautiful Elizabethtown
Sophomore
Bryan Kuppe has always had an eye for design.
Throughout high school, Bryan took
architecture and computer-assisted drawing classes. Therefore, it was no
surprise that he continued his interest after arriving at Elizabethtown,
first as part of his First-Year Seminar and then during three semesters of
independent research in transforming work spaces through computer-aided
architectural visualization.
Recently, Bryan was given the opportunity to apply his knowledge
in projects here on campus, as he worked with others to develop concepts
for the renovation of the lobby in Steinman Center for Communications and the Arts and the design of the Masters Center’s new Robotics and Machine Intelligence Laboratory.
From the technical side,
these projects have allowed Bryan to develop and hone his skills with the computer
software that he uses to share a client’s vision with a construction firm.
From the interpersonal side, he is learning effective communications skills
that are essential in this line of work. According to Bryan, his efforts have been personally rewarding on
many levels. “The greatest impact of these projects is the notion that I
could create an artistic piece and at the same time have people enjoy and
utilize it in their everyday lives,” Bryan reflects.
Bryan’s designs
for both the Steinman
Center lobby and the Robotics
and Machine Intelligence Laboratory will be on display in the Steinman Lobby beginning on Scholarship and Creative
Arts Day through May 1.
