Judo is an Olympic sport, developed from the ancient Japanese martial art of Jujiutsu. The techniques of judo consist of throwing, grappling, strangling, and joint locking. The techniques of judo may also be used for self-defense. Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964 at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
The Wilmington Judo Club is dedicated to the furtherance of the sport. The club meets at the American Karate Studio in the Branmar Plaza in Wilmington, Delaware on Thursday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Previously I have been the Chief Instructor of the Wilmington YMCA Judo Club
since 1958. I have served as chairman of the Referee Development
and Certification Committee of the United States Judo Federation (USJF).
I am a sixth degree black belt of USJF and Kodokan,
and I hold a Class A Referee License (World and Olympic level
competition) from the International Judo Federation (IJF).
I also held positions as Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee and Referee Certification Subcommittee of United States Judo, Inc.
