Dear student government leader,

I will be the faculty advisor for the new “Robotics and Machine Intelligence Club.” Over the past five years I have supervised over 100 Etown students in various robotics and AI student research. Most of these students have been Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other engineering majors. However, I have also had interest from many other Etown majors. To date, three students have published related conference papers at international conferences – two outside of the U.S.  Many of the students have continued their research at prestigious graduate schools or have been hired into excellent high-paying industry positions.

The present members of the club will consist of 21 students, upper and underclassmen, from five different countries, male and female. I anticipate the membership could grow to as much as 50 over the coming years. The most recent major project is a mobile robot to be entered in a national robotics competition. The students have already raised many thousands of dollars for this project. The students also plan to establish a student mentoring program to help underclassmen get involved.

As faculty advisor for this club, I will:

1)       Oversee all related equipment fund-raising.

2)       Oversee all related equipment spending.

3)       Coordinate all related National Grant Proposal writing.

4)       Help raise funds to send students to related conferences and competitions.

5)       Edit all related publications.

6)       Coordinate all media coverage of related events.

7)       Manage all web related postings (e.g., see http://users.etown.edu/w/wunderjt/weblab.htm).

8)       Coordinate a yearly presentation of club activities at our annual student conference of CS and Engineering projects.

9)       Integrate future efforts of the club into the official “Robotics and Machine Intelligence Laboratory” to be constructed on the second floor of the new science building.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this club.

Sincerely
